Jonathan Majors is poised for a return to the big screen with the upcoming release of Magazine Dreams. The bodybuilding drama, initially acquired by Searchlight Pictures, was dropped from Disney’s release calendar due to Majors’ legal troubles. Now, Briarcliff Entertainment has secured the domestic distribution rights, and the film is set for a theatrical debut in early 2025.

In Magazine Dreams, Majors portrays Killian Maddox, an amateur bodybuilder grappling with isolation and the pursuit of fame. Written and directed by Elijah Bynum, the film delves into themes of ambition, identity, and violence. The movie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023, also features Taylour Paige, Haley Bennett, and Harrison Page.

A New Start for Majors’ Career

The film’s release marks a significant moment in Majors’ career after his conviction in December 2023. The actor was found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment following an altercation with his ex-girlfriend. Though he was acquitted on more serious charges, the conviction stalled his rise in Hollywood. In response, Disney had pulled Magazine Dreams from its schedule, and Marvel recast his role as Kang in the Avengers franchise.

Despite these setbacks, Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Briarcliff Entertainment, expressed confidence in the film’s potential. “Jonathan Majors’ transcendent performance as Killian Maddox will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative roles in recent cinema history,” Ortenberg said in a statement. “We are honored to bring this extraordinary work to theaters nationwide, inviting audiences to witness a story that will resonate long after the credits roll.”

Physical Transformation for a Demanding Role

Majors underwent a significant physical transformation to portray Maddox. The actor consumed 6,100 calories daily and trained six days a week for months to achieve the physique of a steroid-powered bodybuilder. As Magazine Dreams heads toward its release, the role could reignite Majors’ career after a tumultuous period.

The film’s impending debut will offer audiences a chance to see Majors in what many are already calling a career-defining performance.
