Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles is set to release her first memoir, I’m That Girl, in the spring of 2025. The 23-year-old gymnast, known for her resilience and charisma, shared the news exclusively with PEOPLE. Published by Harper Influence, an imprint of HarperCollins, the book will offer an intimate look into Chiles’ journey as an athlete and a person.

Jordan Chiles’ Story of Perseverance and Triumph

In I’m That Girl, Chiles reflects on the psychological and physical challenges of competitive gymnastics, including her experiences as a Black athlete in a predominantly white sport. “This book is about more than gymnastics—it’s about life, struggles, and the power of perseverance,” Chiles explained.

The memoir will also delve into Chiles’ early struggles with body image and eating issues, as well as the profound relationships she has built with her teammates. Simone Biles, Chiles’ close friend and Olympic teammate, wrote the foreword to the book.

“Jordan’s story is one of determination and courage,” said Lisa Sharkey, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Harper Influence. “She shows us that staying true to yourself can lead to greatness, no matter where you start.”

Controversy and Redemption

Chiles also addresses one of the most challenging moments of her career: being stripped of her bronze medal during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Initially awarded the medal in the individual floor exercise competition, Chiles was later ordered to return it after a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The court deemed that her coach had filed a scoring appeal four seconds too late.

“Losing that medal was devastating,” Chiles said. “But I’ve learned that you need to fight for what you believe in. That moment taught me so much about resilience.”

Despite the setback, Chiles remains focused on inspiring others through her story. I’m That Girl will highlight the ups and downs of her career, celebrating the strength it takes to persevere. The memoir, available for preorder now, will hit shelves on March 4, 2025.

“This book is my heart,” Chiles said. “It’s my way of showing others that no matter what, you can always rise.”
