In an emotional interview with Today host Hoda Kotb, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles shared her struggles since losing her 2024 Olympic bronze medal. “Honestly, it’s been really, really hard just to comprehend everything that’s been happening,” Chiles revealed. The 23-year-old said the past few months have been a “very difficult” period, though she’s now ready to talk about the experience. “I’ve been able to finally now feel comfortable…to talk about what has been happening,” she said, holding back tears.

The scoring controversy unfolded after Chiles’ floor routine at the Paris Olympics. Initially, her performance scored her in fifth place. But after Team USA contested her score, she was moved up to bronze, edging out Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu. Days later, a ruling reversed that decision, with officials claiming Team USA’s inquiry was submitted too late. Reflecting on this, Chiles disagreed with the ruling, saying, “Everything was very right, everything was in the time that it needed to be. We have proof.” She noted the difficulty of processing a decision she feels was unjust.

Jordan Chiles Receives Support from Loved Ones and Fans

Chiles expressed gratitude for the unwavering support she’s received, especially from her family and fans. Her late grandfather’s memory has been a source of strength. “As my grandpa would always say, ‘Everything happens for a reason…There’s reasons on why you’re the person you are,’” Chiles shared, adding that his example helps her face this challenge.

Fellow Team USA gymnasts have also rallied around her. “Sending you so much love, Jordan,” Simone Biles posted online, with Suni Lee also expressing frustration with the decision. Chiles says these messages have been a lifeline during the turmoil. “It’s just the support that’s been around me…I can’t control anything that’s happening on the outside; I can only control what my truth is,” she explained.

As Chiles continues her legal appeal, she reflects on how the experience will shape her journey. “This is just a portion of my story,” she said, determined to share her truth.
