Justin Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., has spoken out following the singer’s recent arrest for driving while intoxicated. The 43-year-old “Cry Me a River” star was pulled over by the Sag Harbor Police Department early on June 18, 2024. He was charged with one count of DWI and two traffic citations.

Burke Jr. released a statement to Billboard saying, “We look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office.”

Justin Timberlake Incident Details

Timberlake was driving a 2025 BMW when he was stopped on Madison Street for failing to stop at a posted stop sign and not maintaining his lane. The arresting officers reported that Timberlake’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, and he was unsteady on his feet. The official police report states, “He performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”

The singer allegedly refused a breathalyzer test at the scene. “The charge was a single count because he refused the breath test,” Burke Jr. explained. Timberlake has not made any public statements regarding the arrest. However, he reportedly told the police, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”

Impact on Timberlake’s Career and Family

Timberlake’s arrest comes at a critical time in his career, with several tour dates on his Forget Tomorrow Tour scheduled for late June. His next court appearance is on July 26, the same day he is set to perform in Poland.

Sources close to the situation revealed that Timberlake’s wife, Jessica Biel, is dealing with the incident privately. “She’s not happy about the attention,” a source told PEOPLE. “She had to film yesterday. She doesn’t like any attention on the family, especially not negative.”

Despite the incident, the source emphasized Biel’s support for her husband. “She loves Justin and will always be by his side. He’s a great dad and husband.”

Edward Burke Jr. has a well-established law firm in Sag Harbor, specializing in criminal defense. He assured that Timberlake would address the allegations in due time and intends to challenge the charges vigorously. “Nobody was hurt,” emphasized a source close to Timberlake, pointing out that the singer was returning home after an evening with friends.
