Kamala Harris Gains Enough Delegates For Democratic Presidential Nomination

US Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during an event honoring National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship teams from the 2023-2024 season, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC on July 22, 2024. Joe Biden on July 21, 2024 dropped out of the US presidential election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's new nominee, in a stunning move that upends an already extraordinary 2024 race for the White House. Biden, 81, said he was acting in the "best interest of my party and the country" by bowing to weeks of pressure after a disastrous June debate against Donald Trump stoked worries about his age and mental fitness.

Kamala Harris officially becomes the Democratic nominee in the presidential election.

It was reported that Harris earned enough delegates to secure her nomination. Delegates from Texas and California came together to show their support for Harris. Their support as well as from other states, helped her pass the required 1,976 delegations.

However, being that she was the only candidate discussed, Vice President Harris may have to wait until the Democratic National Convention to officially be announced as the nominee. Kamala Harris went on social media to react to the news of her success thus far.

“Grateful to President Biden and everyone in the Democratic Party who has already put their faith in me, and I look forward to taking our case directly to the American people,” she said. The VP has made her first public speech on her campaign trail in Milwaukee since President Biden dropped out of the race.

Before giving her speech, she walked out to Beyonce’s song “Freedom,” and got permission to use the song. Beyonce’s mother has publicly endorsed Harris and posted it on Instagram. “New, Youthful, Sharp, energy!!! You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country!” she wrote.

“Putting personal Ego, power, and fame aside. That is the definition of a great leader. Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership. Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go. #Kamala2024.”
