Vice President Kamala Harris expressed gratitude in her first speech after President Biden dropped out of the 2024 race. Speaking at a White House event, Harris emphasized her appreciation for Biden’s contributions. “Every day, our president Joe Biden fights for the people, and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation,” she stated.
Biden, recovering from COVID-19, was unable to attend the event but was mentioned by Harris. “He is feeling much better and recovering fast, and he looks forward to getting back on the road,” Harris added.
Biden’s endorsement of Harris for the Democratic nomination followed his surprising withdrawal from the race. Harris acknowledged their long relationship, noting she first met Biden through his late son, Beau. “Joe Biden’s legacy over the last three years is unmatched in modern history,” Harris declared.
Support for Harris has grown quickly, with key Democrats like Governors Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom, and Andy Beshear rallying behind her. However, former President Barack Obama and top congressional leaders have not yet endorsed her.
Kamala Harris’ Future Plans
Harris expressed her intentions to earn the nomination and unite the Democratic Party. “My intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she said. “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation — to defeat Donald Trump.”
Campaign officials have been working diligently on Harris’ behalf, urging delegates to support her at the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Despite some concerns about her candidacy, Harris remains focused on her campaign and the issues important to her supporters, particularly abortion rights.
Biden plans to remain in office until his term ends on January 20, 2025. His withdrawal from the race has added a new dynamic to the election, with Harris poised to bring a fresh perspective against Trump. Harris’ campaign has already raised significant funds, demonstrating strong initial support.
