Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to appear on the popular Club Shay Shay podcast with former NFL star Shannon Sharpe. This episode, filmed ahead of its Oct. 28 release, will bring Harris and Sharpe together just days before the 2024 Presidential Election, offering a unique mix of politics and sports commentary on the podcast.

Club Shay Shay, which boasts a significant following with 3.6 million subscribers on YouTube, provides an informal platform where Sharpe frequently hosts discussions with notable figures from Black entertainment, sports, and pop culture. The podcast has featured high-profile guests like Katt Williams, Amanda Seales, and John Legend. Sharpe, known for his laid-back but direct interview style, has built a reputation for encouraging candid discussions on his platform.

Kamala Harris Media Strategy

Harris’s appearance on Club Shay Shay is part of a broader media outreach to diverse communities. She has recently engaged with various platforms such as The Howard Stern Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and iHeartRadio’s The Breakfast Club. Jasmine Harris, Black media director for the Harris-Walz campaign, shared that this media strategy aims to “reach Black Americans where they are at and engage with Black communities across the country through diverse mediums.”

A key aspect of Harris’s media approach is to tap into outlets that resonate with younger and diverse audiences, allowing her to discuss issues directly impacting Black communities. Through her appearance on Club Shay Shay, she hopes to reach an audience often left out of traditional political messaging.

A Shared HBCU Connection

Both Harris and Sharpe share a deep connection with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Harris is a graduate of Howard University, while Sharpe attended Savannah State University. Harris often credits her time at Howard with shaping her into the leader she is today, grounding her in values of justice and equity. Sharpe, a strong advocate for HBCUs, uses his platform to highlight their importance in cultivating Black talent and leadership.

With the 2024 Presidential Election around the corner, this Club Shay Shay episode promises a discussion at the intersection of culture, education, and politics.
