Vice President Kamala Harris isn’t hiding her Beyhive membership. During her first presidential campaign appearance in Delaware on Monday, Harris walked out to Beyoncé’s 2016 hit “Freedom.” With Beyoncé’s permission, Harris made a powerful statement, sparking speculations of support from the superstar.

Although Beyoncé hasn’t officially endorsed Harris, her mother, Tina Knowles, voiced her support over the weekend. Knowles posted on Instagram, “New, youthful, sharp energy! That is the definition of a great leader. Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President.”

Beyoncé has previously supported Democratic candidates. In 2013, she sang the national anthem at Barack Obama’s second-term inauguration. In 2016, Beyoncé endorsed Hillary Clinton and performed at a pre-election concert. Her song “Freedom,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, became an anthem during the 2020 demonstrations following George Floyd’s death.

Harris’ Campaign Message

After her unforgettable entrance, Harris delivered a powerful 20-minute speech. She posed a critical question: “What kind of country do we want to live in: A country of freedom, compassion, and rule of law, or a country of chaos, fear, and hate?”

Harris praised President Joe Biden’s work over the past four years while condemning Donald Trump’s criminal history. “I took on perpetrators of all kinds: Predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own game,” she stated. “So hear me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type. And in this campaign, I will proudly put my record against his.”

Though Harris hasn’t been officially announced as Biden’s replacement, her campaign has gained significant momentum. She received a record $50 million in donations in one day, which has now skyrocketed to over $80 million.

On July 22, Harris took to Twitter to announce securing enough delegates to become the official Democratic nominee. “Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee,” she declared. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon. Over the next few months, I’ll be traveling across the country talking to Americans about everything on the line. I fully intend to unite our party and our nation, and defeat Donald Trump.”
