Karen Huger, the self-proclaimed grande dame of The Real Housewives of Potomac (RHOP), has opted to prioritize her health over the highly anticipated Season 9 reunion. The decision was confirmed by her manager, Ryan Tresdale, who revealed that Huger entered a private recovery program and, as a result, was unable to attend the reunion taping.

“Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program, so she was unable to attend the reunion taping today,” Tresdale said in a statement. “She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth.”

Huger’s absence comes on the heels of a turbulent few months. In March 2024, she was involved in a single-vehicle collision in Potomac, Maryland. The incident led to charges including DUI, negligent driving, and failure to control vehicle speed. Following her guilty verdict in December, Huger’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment with the outcome but vowed to appeal.

“Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case,” Bolden said. “We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf.”

The fallout from the incident was exacerbated when police body cam footage of the crash surfaced, showing Huger dodging questions about her alcohol consumption. Fans and critics alike speculated on whether her legal issues influenced her decision to enter recovery.

While some fans applauded Huger’s decision to seek help, others questioned her absence from the reunion, a critical arena for addressing conflicts and controversies. “Please don’t bash Karen. She’s already embarrassed about this whole situation,” one supporter wrote online. Others, however, saw the move as strategic avoidance, with one commenter noting, “She ain’t ready for that smoke.”

As RHOP viewers debate Huger’s motivations, one thing remains clear: her journey is far from over. Whether she returns as a reformed figure or faces further challenges, Huger’s next chapter is one fans won’t want to miss.
