Karen Huger gets rid of her legal team after her DUI conviction.

According to reports, the former Real Housewives of Potomac star, let her legal team go on the second day of her trial back in December. Huger was found guilty of DUI as well as failure to control speed to avoid a collision, failure to notify of a change in address, and negligent driving during her car accident last March.

After the bodycam footage of her arrest was released, a judge initially offered her 60 days in jail, but she wanted to have a jury trial and now faces two years in jail. Reports also state that Huger informed the judge that she fired her attorneys and asked that sentencing be postponed until she gets out of rehab.

On January 9, her new legal team filed a motion explaining why she let go of her team of attorneys and asked for time to review the case. “Ms. Huger is seeking to have the benefit of counsel’s 30 years of experience handling cases of this kins, in Maryland Courts, and in fashioning recommendations that State and the Court may find acceptable to address the community’s interests in accountability, rehabilitation, supervision, and deterrence,” the motion read.

The motion goes on to mention Huger’s out-of-state rehab program and that her sentencing date is only one day after she is released from rehab. “The rules of the program severely limit the counsel’s ability to communicate with Ms. Huger and prepare for sentencing. Karen will be returning from that program on January 28, 2025, the day before the scheduled sentencing.”

Karen Huger’s new sentencing date is slated for February 26.
