Kendrick Lamar’s smash hit “Not Like Us” could potentially earn the rapper another Grammy. The song is likely to be up for consideration ahead of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. discussed the song’s success and Grammy potential in a recent interview with TMZ.

Kendrick Lamar’s High Praise from the Recording Academy

“Obviously, it’s a hot record, it’s amazing artistry,” Mason Jr. remarked about the chart-topping diss track. “Great writing… Incredible.” He highlighted Lamar’s impressive history with the Grammys, where he has received numerous nominations and wins over the years. “You got an artist that’s been nominated before,” Mason Jr. noted. “He’s been successful with the organization… I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be.”

Mason Jr. emphasized the song’s broad relevance and impact across the musical landscape. “It’s impactful on so many levels,” he explained. “I like to believe the Academy members recognize that.” He expressed confidence that the song’s quality and significance would resonate with Grammy voters.

Consistent Grammy Success

Lamar has already garnered 50 Grammy nominations and 17 wins, including Best Rap Album, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. His most recent album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, was nominated for Album of the Year and won Best Rap Album.

When asked if the Recording Academy might consider creating a Best Diss Song category, Mason Jr. found the suggestion amusing but didn’t rule it out. “Anything is possible,” he said.

Anticipation for the Music Video

Meanwhile, fans eagerly await the official music video for “Not Like Us.” Complex reported on the Compton shoot earlier this month, noting the high excitement levels throughout the production. While a release date hasn’t been set, it’s expected to be soon.

As the Grammys approach, anticipation builds for whether “Not Like Us” will secure a nomination. With its strong impact and Lamar’s proven Grammy track record, the song’s prospects look promising. Eligibility for the 2025 Grammys requires recordings to be released between September 16, 2023, and August 30, 2024. The 67th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 2 in Los Angeles.
