Award-winning Gospel singer Kim Burrell is opening up about her relationship with the late Whitney Houston.

In an interview with FOX 5 DC, the gospel singer and pastor shared that she is working on a book about their sisterhood, entitled ‘Whitney and Me.’

Expressing her feelings of loss and nostalgia, particularly during the holiday season she shared:

“I miss her so very much, especially during the holidays.”

Burrell revealed that she and Houston made a promise to each other before Whitney’s untimely passing: to refrain from disclosing certain intimate details of their friendship and experiences in published works until the time was right. Now, as Burrell embarks on this literary endeavor, she feels ready to honor that commitment and release the book that embodies their loyalty and friendship.

“I am finally getting that out! It is so hard to talk about, especially now that we just funeralized her mother,” she shared.

During 2010’s BET Honors, Burrell gave Houston a warm tribute of performance ‘I Believe In You & Me’. The following year, the two iconic singers have shared the staged at BET’s Celebration of Gospel.

According to The Christian Post, after their Gospel performance, Houston called Burrell that night and said, “Kim, I needed to do that. It felt good. And I thank God that we had an opportunity to do it together.”

The Grammy-award singer then flew to Burrell’s home in Houston where they watched the performance over and over again as if they had never seen it before.

As they continued to replay the song, Houston said, “Look at God. Listen to God. Look at God on us.”

“We shared that moment in my living room,” Burrell recalled.

Burrell has previously mentioned that she was Houston’s spiritual counselor.

“Whenever she called I was there,” the Gospel singer stated, even flying out to Germany during Houston’s last European tour, “just to be there in prayer” for her. “When she knew that she needed help she didn’t mind saying that.

With the upcoming release of “Whitney and Me,” Burrell aims to provide insight into the friendship and creative partnership that defined her and Houston’s lives.

An official release date is not confirmed.
