The music world continues to honor the enduring legacy of George Brown—a cherished co-founder of the legendary Kool & The Gang, Songwriters Hall of Famer, drummer, keyboardist, author, husband, and father—with the release of a new single & video for “Shawty’s Got.”

Written nearly two decades ago, “Shawty’s Got,” is a heartfelt tribute to young love, and homage to his wife Hahn Brown. This track is the second single from his upcoming posthumous album, Where I’m Coming From, set to be released on September 13.

Hanh Brown described the upcoming album as a revelation of a new side of George. “It’s George as you’ve never seen him before. His voice resonates with incredible depth and authenticity, while the lyrics are profoundly sentimental. He wanted people to really connect with them, just as they can with the entire album. With ‘Where I’m Coming From, it feels like George’s vision has come to life.”

Throughout his career, George remained dedicated to his craft, pouring his heart and soul into every composition. “George was a gifted storyteller,” Hahn remarks. “He drew inspiration from his grandmother, who instilled in him valuable life lessons and wisdom. She was his guiding light, shaping his perspective on faith, family, and humanity.”

In 2023, Brown produced the band’s latest album, People Just Wanna Have Fun, and released his memoir “Too Hot: Kool & The Gang & Me.” In 2024 Kool and the Gang was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Their hit singles include “Ladies Night,” “Celebration” and “Jungle Boogie.” They’ve received two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums.
