La La Anthony opens up about her skin health and how it affected her self-esteem.
Anthony has been candid about suffering from plaque psoriasis for over a decade. Last year, she partnered with Amgen to discuss it. According to reports, plaque psoriasis can cause dry skin, itching, dandruff, burning, and scaliness.” These are the symptoms that the actress has experienced.
“Plaque psoriasis has affected my confidence at times, for sure- I would be lying if I said it hadn’t,” she said in an interview. She also explained that she felt “heightened self-consciousness while attending events.”
She also stated that she felt that guests were “looking at or whispering about my flaky, rough patches or if someone may ask me what they are.” After her diagnosis, she explained that she learned more about it.
“Many people don’t realize that plaque psoriasis is not just a skin condition, but an autoimmune disease that starts inside the body,” Anthony said. Amgen and La La Anthony released a statement and shared that when she began experiencing plaque psoriasis, she thought it was dry skin, however, the symptoms became worse.
“A lot of my life is public, and people are used to seeing me on camera – but some of my biggest struggles with plaque psoriasis are in the moments where no one is watching,” she revealed. “Like leading up to this one big premiere – I remember I was hyper-aware of all the photos that were about to be taken, and it was distracting for me before the event. I didn’t want anyone to see my skin and think ‘what is that?’”
