Lloyd’s debut single “Southside,” a beloved collaboration with Ashanti, has officially been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released 20 years ago, this milestone is a major achievement for the Lloyd, as both the song and the album have remained fan favorites.

The certification of “Southside” isn’t the only accolade for Lloyd. His debut album Southside has also earned a gold certification, while his albums Street Love and the hit single “Lay It Down” have now gone platinum. Other notable singles, including “You” and “Get It Shawty,” are approaching diamond status, having reached 4x and 2x platinum respectively.
Upon hearing the news, Lloyd shared a heartfelt reflection on Instagram. “When I was a kid, I’d have traded any feeling of accomplishment away just for a chance to speak to my dad,” he wrote. He went on to describe his journey, filled with “sleepless nights and moments of self-doubt,” but ultimately finding strength in his faith. “I know he is smiling down on his only son as the affirmations I’ve received today only prove that everything happens for a reason.”
The R&B singer, now 38, expressed gratitude to his fans and collaborators. “I just want to take a moment to say thank you to any and everyone who’s been part of my journey,” he continued. “Thank you for giving me the confidence and the encouragement to walk with a purpose.”

Reflecting on the significance of these achievements, Lloyd spoke about the number seven, marking his seventh certification of 2024. “The number 7 in this case represents a full and complete circle,” he said, highlighting both the challenges and triumphs that have defined his career.
