Legendary rapper, producer, and founding member of the hip-hop collective Diggin’ In The Crates Crew (D.I.T.C.), Lord Finesse is back with a new project, Motown State of Mind.
The album is made up of handpick Motown classic records, remixed, in true Lord Finesse fashion. In addition, the remixes will also be released as a 45 RPM box set on July 24, which will include “seven 7-inch records on black vinyl featuring the remixed version on Side A and the classic original on Side B.”
The track-list includes top hits such as Michael Jackson’s “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” and DeBarge’s “I Like It.” While showing his appreciation for the greats, Finesse is also tapping into the new wave of sound and bringing new angles to the classics.
“My state of mind when trying to do The Motown State of Mind was basically, trying to add a new energy to such iconic classics” Finesse says. “In a way where this generation now, as well as the generation from my era would catch a whole new vibe from the remixes that I was doing for the project.”
