Baseball legend, Luis Tiant, has passed away at 83.

Tiant played Major League baseball for 19 seasons and was known as one of the most dominant pitchers from 1964-1982. He played for multiple teams, however, his longest stint was with the Boston Red Sox from 1971-1978.

According to reports, Tiant, whose nickname was ‘El Tiante’, was a three-time all-star and he led the American League in ERA in 1968 and 1972. The Cuban-born player, began his career in 1964 when he played with the Cleveland Indians.

During his debut, he would do a “four-hit, eleven-strikeout shutout over the New York Yankees.” After 1968, he received his first All-Star appearance, which became one of the best pitching campaigns in MLB history.

Luis Tiant would go on to set records throughout his career. After suffering from a few injuries, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins with a multi-player deal. We will keep Tiant’s family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
