Mariah Carey speaks on why she believes the Grammys scammed her
Although she has a handful of Grammys of her own, the “We Belong Together,” singer voiced her opinions about the award show. While on the “Las Culturistas” podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, it was mentioned that she didn’t have enough Grammys, to which she responded, “They scammed me. They toy with me.”
Carey has been nominated for 34 Grammys throughout her career but has only won 5 awards. She won two Grammys for her 1991 debut single, “Vision of Love,” and three more for her album “Emancipation of Mimi,” with two being for her single, “We Belong Together.”
Carey explained that she believes her best piece of work was her sixth studio album, “Butterfly.” She shared, “It definitely has very special significance to me. I think it’s probably my best album.” Rogers agreed with her and said, “I don’t know how it doesn’t have all of the accolades.” Carey responded, “It has zero accolades.”
Her “Butterfly” album received some Grammy nominations but didn’t take home any. “I love that album,” she said. “It has a certain feeling when you listen to it. It’s just got a lot of diversity, like you go from ‘Breakdown,’ to ‘Butterfly’ to ‘My All.’”
