Just two days into the New Year, 10 people were left injured during a mass shooting that took place outside of a Queens nightclub.
According to reports, the shooting took place outside of Amazura Nightclub as a “celebration of life” party was being held for a man who was murdered a few months ago. The shooting took place around 11:15 p.m. when at least three gunmen started shooting at the crowd of people waiting to get inside the club.
The victims, four males, and six females were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The gunmen shot at least over 30 rounds before getting into a light-colored sedan with out-of-state license plates. The suspects have not been caught.
Philip Rivera, NYPD Chief of Patrol said in a press conference, “This is not a terrorist attack.” He continued, “There’s zero tolerance for these senseless shootings, these horrible acts of violence on our streets. Those responsible for this crime will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
Clubgoers were attending the “celebration of life” party for a man who was murdered in October. He was born on New Year’s Day and the party was a memorial held in his honor. The police are investigating the shooting and are trying to figure out if the shooting was gang-related.
“That’s one of the avenues we’re pursuing but it’s too early to determine right now,” Rivera said. Amazura’s management wrote on Instagram about the incident, “We are deeply saddened by the recent and unfortunate isolated incident that occurred.”
They continued, “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act. We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation and to help bring those responsible to justice.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
