Michael Strahan is officially a grandpa.
The New York Giants legend made the announcement live during the Fox NFL Sunday show. On September 22, alongside Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long, Strahan opened the show revealing that his eldest daughter Tanita gave birth to a baby boy. The newborn’s name is Onyx, according to People.
His Fox team told him “congrats grandpa” after he made the declaration.
Strahan clapped his hands together and was seen beaming throughout the start of the show.
“Yes, I am a grandfather everybody”, said the Good Morning America host.
“My daughter Tanita had my grandson, Onyx, is his name.
“That means black, in case you were wondering.
“It’s really special because I know you guys have gone through this.”
Long, already a grandfather added, “Grandkids are great”
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback icon Bradshaw then asked for a health update on Tanita. “Daughter is good?” to which Strahan replied, “Daughter is fantastic.”
Tanita, 32, is the eldest of Strahan’s four children. He shares Tanita with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. She was born in Germany, but lived in Houston, Texas, until her parents divorced, after which she moved back to Germany with her mother.
Tanita has not publicly addressed her pregnancy according to her Instagram page.
“I’ve never been the type of person to be starstruck,” Tanita told People in 2016, noting that her time in Europe kept her “grounded.”
“Growing up in Germany, no one cared about stuff like that,” she added.
Earlier this year, the former New York Giants player revealed that his twin daughter Isabella had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
She underwent emergency surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor known as medulloblastoma the day before her 19th birthday.
