Talk show host Montel Williams has come forward to dispel a rumor suggesting a supposed sex tape featuring him and Vice President Kamala Harris. The allegation originated from social media influencer Matt Wallace, who claimed a video involving the former couple was being “shopped around” and could damage Harris’s presidential campaign. The unfounded claim circulated widely, generating millions of views and intense debate across platforms.
Montel Williams Denies Allegations, Calls Out Political Smear Campaign
Responding to the allegation on X (formerly Twitter), Williams firmly denied any such tape exists, tweeting, “Wow, I hear a blogger I’ve never heard of got millions of views claiming someone is ‘shopping’ a sex tape of me [rolling eyes emoji] that will ‘break the internet.’” He added emphatically, “Let’s ‘break the internet’ w/ truth – there is no tape. Kamala Harris’s surge clearly has some people worried.”
Williams, who briefly dated Harris over two decades ago, dismissed the allegations as a baseless distraction during a crucial period in the election cycle. Reflecting on their relationship, Williams noted in a previous interview, “@KamalaHarris and I briefly dated about 20 years ago when we were both single. So what?” He continued, questioning if Harris’s dating history would have received the same scrutiny if she were a male candidate, highlighting a longstanding double standard in American politics.
Following Williams’ statement, Matt Wallace retracted his claims, acknowledging that “the allegations are false.” However, the episode has led many to criticize the spread of such rumors as an attempt to undermine Harris’s credibility in the final days of her campaign.
Williams, who publicly endorsed Harris in July 2024, has consistently voiced support for her, previously re-tweeting Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s endorsement. The recent surge in baseless allegations, he suggested, may reflect concerns among Harris’s opponents as her campaign gains momentum.
