Nashville Shooting

Tyrek Burton, 37, of Greensboro, North Carolina, was shot and killed just hours after his wedding, following an alleged road rage incident on October 12, 2024. Family members recount that Burton was returning to Barber Park Events Center in Greensboro, where the wedding had taken place, after briefly leaving the venue. He reportedly made a U-turn, inadvertently cutting off another driver who then followed him to the event center and fatally shot him.

A Night of Celebration Turns Tragic in North Carolina

“He made a U-turn and I guess didn’t see somebody. Cut them off and that person followed him back to the park,” said Burton’s sister, Brittany Burton. “There are cameras. This was at a public park and there were multiple eyewitnesses, including one of his daughters. It was done in front of his wife.”

Police responded to the scene around 9 p.m. that night and found Burton in the parking area. Despite life-saving efforts, Burton was pronounced dead at the scene. The Greensboro Police Department is actively investigating and has urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.

Burton’s family is devastated, grappling with how a day of celebration could turn so quickly into a nightmare. His mother, Carolyn Burton, expressed her anger and sorrow, demanding accountability for her son’s killing. “I demand justice. I don’t want to wait years for it. He didn’t deserve what he got,” she said. “He waited 13 years to get his bride. As soon as he got her, he couldn’t even take her home. It’s just not fair.”

Tyrek Burton and his bride had been together for 16 years and were raising four daughters. The family, struggling to cope with this tragedy, has started a GoFundMe campaign to support his widow and their daughters during this difficult time. The fundraiser, launched to cover expenses and provide financial support, has raised over $13,000 as of October 25.

“He was one of the coolest people I know,” Brittany Burton shared. “He could walk into a room, and that smile—everyone loved him.” The couple had been planning their honeymoon in Charlotte, North Carolina, following their wedding.

The shooter remains unidentified.
