Former NFL star Richard Sherman’s Washington home was invaded by armed intruders over the weekend while his family was inside. The incident occurred late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, coinciding with Sherman’s 37th birthday. Sherman shared surveillance footage on social media showing three armed individuals entering his residence. He appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects.
Family’s Harrowing Experience
Sherman’s wife, Ashley Moss, recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that she awoke to find intruders just outside their bedroom. She emphasized that, despite the frightening encounter, the family remained physically unharmed. Moss expressed determination to find those responsible, noting that the intruders accessed the property through the backyard and a neighbor’s fence.
The King County Sheriff’s Office has launched an active investigation into the burglary but has yet to identify any suspects. Authorities are reviewing the security footage provided by Sherman and are seeking any additional information from the public.
Trend of Targeting Athletes
This incident adds to a concerning trend of professional athletes’ homes being targeted by criminals. Recently, U.S. prosecutors charged seven members of a Chilean theft ring for breaking into athletes’ homes during games, including the residences of NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Sherman, now an analyst for Amazon Prime Video, urged the public to help identify the intruders. He highlighted that local police informed him of similar break-ins in the area, suggesting a pattern of targeted burglaries.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward.
