Savannah James, wife of NBA superstar LeBron James, has made it clear: she doesn’t want to be called “wifey.” The term, which has become popular in recent years, is one Savannah feels diminishes the true significance of marriage. In a recent episode of her podcast Everybody’s Crazy with co-host April McDaniel, Savannah explained why she strongly dislikes the label and how it impacts her view of her role as a wife.

“I hate, loathe the term ‘wifey,’” Savannah declared passionately during the episode. “I had to politely tell my husband back in the day. You think you know, but you have no idea.” For Savannah, being referred to as “wifey” feels like a downgrade from the title of wife, reducing her commitment and partnership in marriage to a trendy, informal term.

James Believes It’s More Than Just a Label

Savannah’s dislike for the term isn’t just a casual preference. For her, it’s about respect and the importance of recognizing the weight and value of being a wife. The word “wifey,” she argues, trivializes the role and fails to capture the depth of the relationship. It’s not just a term of endearment; it’s a label that carries different connotations than she feels comfortable with.

“Ooh! When I tell you I hate, loathe ‘wifey’ with my whole entire soul,” she emphasized, recalling the frustration she felt when first encountering the term. “Don’t call me your ‘wifey’ when I’m not… I’m not.” Savannah’s insistence on being called a wife, not a wifey, highlights her belief in the seriousness of marriage and the respect that comes with it.

During the podcast, Savannah and her co-host also delved into the intricacies of modern relationship terminology, discussing the difference between a “side chick” and a “sneaky link.” When asked if there was a difference between the two, Savannah admitted she initially didn’t see one. “Nothing,” she responded before seeking clarification from younger participants in the conversation. “Young people, help us, we’re old,” she joked.

After learning that a “side chick” is often known by the main partner, whereas a “sneaky link” is kept secret, Savannah added humorously, “It’s too much, just, it’s stressful to even be talking about.”

Savannah James may be married to one of the most famous athletes in the world, but she continues to carve out her own identity, on her own terms. Whether she’s navigating modern relationship jargon or standing firm on what she wants to be called, Savannah is clear: she’s more than just a “wifey”—she’s a wife, and proud of it.
