Legendary producer Scott Storch has revealed that he once shared a home with the late rap icon DMX during a tumultuous period when both were grappling with addiction. Storch, a self-proclaimed cocaine addict, tried to help DMX, who was battling a crack cocaine addiction, get clean.

“X was living with me, man, and like it was the blind leading the blind,” Storch said during an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience. “I’m a coke addict, and he’s a crack addict, and I’m like trying to help him. I’m like, ‘You really need to get clean, man.’” Despite his own struggles, Storch convinced DMX to enter rehab to avoid jail time. However, DMX escaped the facility with a nurse and contacted Storch from a nearby Hard Rock Café. While Storch convinced him to return, the rehab center refused to readmit him, resulting in DMX serving jail time instead.

Efforts to Save a Legend

Years later, Scott Storch learned that DMX’s health was rapidly declining. The rapper had developed emphysema, a chronic lung condition, and was, as Storch put it, “one rock away from death.” Teaming up with manager Steve Lobel, Storch arranged for DMX to undergo detox at a Washington facility they were affiliated with.

“We put him on a private plane to Washington to do a detox,” Storch recalled. “He went through the whole detox, and the plan was to leave the detox and come to our facility, inpatient, and do rehab. He never made it back on the plane to head back, and we never saw him again. That was me trying to save a man’s life that I really loved.”

DMX, whose music inspired millions, passed away on April 9, 2021, at age 50, following a heart attack caused by a drug overdose. Reflecting on their bond, Storch described DMX as “one of the greatest to ever do it” and a deeply special individual.

In a lighter memory, Storch shared how DMX reacted to a surprise visit from Pamela Anderson during a Super Bowl afterparty. Spotting her, DMX simply shouted “Baywatch!” before casually walking away, leaving the room in stitches.
