Simon Guobadia has been detained by ICE.
Reports state that Porsha Williams’ ex-husband was being held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA. Sources close to the situation said that his detainment is a result of his having issues with gaining his U.S. Citizenship.
In 1982, the Nigerian native overstayed his visa but was able to return to the U.S. on a work visa, which he overstayed again. In 1992, he reportedly was deported and then came back to the U.S. under an alias, claiming he was permanent residence. Simon Guobadia filed for naturalization in 2016 but was denied because of his history and was denied in his requests and appeals.
After filing for citizenship last month, he was denied again. His filings allegedly led him to be detained by ICE. If he and Porsha had stayed married for three years, he would’ve been able to gain his citizenship.
In a statement regarding Guobadia’s detainment, Williams wrote, “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment my priority is moving forward with my family.”
