Simone Biles is seemingly not phased by the remarks made by the Baltimore Ravens cornerback, Marlon Humphrey.
After the floor finals ended both US Olympic gymnasts, Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles earned the silver and bronze medals, coming in second and third to Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, who received the gold medal.
Biles and Chiles celebrated Andrade’s accomplishment by bowing to her and showing solidarity with her. The photo received much praise on social media, however, Marlon Humphrey did not appreciate the gesture at all. He went on social media and wrote, “This is literally disgusting.”
Simone Biles would address the comment during an interview with Hoda Kotb. “I think it’s all about sportsmanship, and we don’t care whether we win or lose. We’re always going to keep a good face and support our competitors because they’ve worked just as hard as we have for that moment.”
She continued, “So you have to give them their flowers. And that’s exactly what me and Jordan were doing, and we were so happy for her. She deserved it. She had the best floor routine of the day and in the Olympics. So it’s like, yeah, she deserved it.”
Humphrey has not explained his comment but he did acknowledge that he was experiencing a lot of backlash from social media. “I’m lowkey getting cooked right now. I think I’m getting cussed out in Brazilian on Instagram lol.”
