In a surprising turn of events, Snoop Dogg has expressed a newfound admiration and respect for former U.S. President and 2024 Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
This marked change in perspective was revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times of London, where the 52-year-old artist conveyed his sentiments, stating, “He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me.”
Snoop Dogg acknowledged that his positive feelings towards Trump were heavily influenced by the former President’s decision to grant clemency to Michael “Harry-O” Harris, a convicted drug kingpin and the financial force behind Death Row Records, where Snoop Dogg himself rose to fame. Harris was released from prison in January 2021, just before the conclusion of Trump’s term.
“I love what they did,” Snoop Dogg emphasized in an interview with the New York Post after Harris’ release. “That’s great work for the president and his team on the way out.” Reiterating these sentiments to The Sunday Times of London, Snoop Dogg elaborated, “He pardoned Michael Harris. So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
This surprising shift in Snoop Dogg’s stance on Trump stands in stark contrast to his previous criticisms and public disapproval. Following Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, Snoop had announced on social media his intention to move to Canada due to his discontent with Trump’s politics, a promise he later rescinded.
The rapper had also used his music and artistic expression to criticize Trump, notably featuring a clown named Ronald Klump in the 2017 music video for Lavender (Nightfall Remix),” where Snoop Dogg pointed a gun at the clown, symbolizing Trump. Additionally, the artwork for his 2017 EP, “Make America Crip Again,” featured a “Trump” corpse.
Snoop Dogg’s reconciliation with Trump has not gone unnoticed, especially considering their highly publicized feud. In the interview with The Sunday Times, he expressed his change of heart, saying, “I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
Despite this newfound appreciation, Snoop Dogg remains coy about declaring support for any specific candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. When asked about his stance, he responded, “I may have to because there are mixed views on that, so I want to see what the people say.” As Trump gears up for a potential face-off with President Joe Biden, Snoop Dogg’s evolving perspective adds a layer of intrigue to the political landscape.
