Storm Reid, known for her role as Gia Bennett on HBO’s hit drama Euphoria, has officially announced that she will not return for the highly anticipated third season. The actress, who has played Rue’s younger sister since the show’s debut, reflected on her departure with mixed emotions.
Speaking at Time’s Women of the Year event, Reid called leaving the series “bittersweet” but emphasized her gratitude for being part of the Euphoria universe. “I’m so blessed to have been on the show and to have contributed to such an impactful story,” she said. “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m forever grateful.”
A Lasting Bond Between Zendaya and Storm Reid
Reid and her Euphoria co-star Zendaya have formed a close relationship both on and off-screen. Despite leaving the show, Reid made it clear that her connection with Zendaya remains strong.
“That’s my sister before Euphoria and after Euphoria,” Reid shared. “That’s going to be my sister for life. I’m sure we’ll work together again one day in some capacity.”
Reid also praised the impact of her character, Gia, and the significance of telling a story centered around addiction, trauma, and family. “It was an honor to play Gia and show what it’s like for a sibling dealing with a loved one’s struggles,” she added.
Looking Forward to Season 3
Although she won’t be returning, Reid expressed excitement for Euphoria’s third season as a fan. “I know they’re going to do something special, and it’s going to be good,” she said. “I can’t wait to watch.”
Production for the upcoming season is set to begin in early 2025 after delays caused by industry strikes and scheduling conflicts. Reports suggest that the new season will feature a time jump, shifting the focus beyond high school. This narrative decision may explain the absence of some characters, including Gia.
While Euphoria moves forward without Reid, the core cast, including Zendaya, is set to return. With new storylines and character developments on the horizon, fans eagerly await what’s next for the groundbreaking series.
