Activist and Author Tamika Mallory Brings Personal Story to Life
Mallory’s book tour kicks off on February 13, with her first stop at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in New York City. Over the following week, she will visit Washington, D.C., and conclude the tour on February 20 at Baldwin & Co., a popular coffee shop and bookstore in New Orleans.
“I’m so excited for you all to experience my journey through I Lived to Tell the Story,” Mallory shared in a recent Instagram post. “It’s been a roller coaster. I’m looking forward to bringing you all along for the ride!”
As a follow-up to her critically acclaimed book State of Emergency, Mallory’s memoir dives deeper into her personal experiences and her work in social justice. Reflecting on her upbringing as the daughter of civil rights activists in Harlem, she offers a candid exploration of the trials she has faced, both personally and professionally.
Mallory’s powerful voice and leadership gained widespread recognition during the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, particularly with her heartfelt speech following the murder of George Floyd. Her new memoir continues to amplify her belief that change requires resilience and an unwavering commitment to justice.
In I Lived to Tell the Story, Mallory writes about the challenges of grassroots organizing and the ongoing fight against systemic inequality. “Resilience is essential,” she says in the book. “Progress isn’t easy, and we can’t afford to back down.”
