Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, and Teyana Taylor were tapped by Tyler Perry to star in his new film Straw.
Actors Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar and Mike Merrill will star alongside the actresses, rounding out the cast.
Straw follows a devoted single mother facing unfortunate events that send her down an unexpected path. Struggling against circumstances beyond her control, she becomes entangled in a situation she never imagined. Fueled by desperation, she finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence, according a synopsis from the producers.
Straw is the latest project from Perry and Netflix’s film creative partnership that will have the filmmaker write, direct and produce features under a multi-year, first-look deal. Perry has several projects in the works at the streamer, such as “The Six Triple Eight,” starring Kerry Washington, and newly announced drama series “Beauty in Black.”
His recent filmography includes the twisty “Mea Culpa” with Kelly Rowland, courtroom thriller “A Fall From Grace,” romantic drama “A Jazzman’s Blues” and “A Madea Homecoming,” the 11th and final chapter in Perry’s commercially successful franchise about a tough-talking, gun-toting grandmother.
