The Roots Picnic is making a triumphant return to Los Angeles on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Dubbed A Roots Picnic Experience: Class of ’95, this one-night-only celebration will take place at the iconic Hollywood Bowl. Hosted by Live Nation Urban and the LA Phil, the event promises to transport fans back to a pivotal year in hip-hop history.
Hip-Hop Fans Celebrate the Return of the Roots Picnic to Hollywood Bowl
The star-studded lineup is headlined by legendary acts whose careers helped define 1995. Performers include Lil’ Kim, Method Man and Redman, E-40, DJ Quik, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and many more. The Roots will not only headline but also serve as the backing band for all performances, adding their signature touch to the evening.
Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, drummer and co-founder of The Roots, reflected on the significance of 1995. “That was the Year It All Came Together,” he said. “It’s when our first major release, Do You Want More?!!!??!, was sent into the world. Hip-hop was an entirely new ballgame back then, on an entirely new playing field. Those were the days when classic album after classic album emerged, unleashing countless new ideas about art.”
Nostalgia and Affordable Tickets Create Buzz
Fans can enjoy this unforgettable evening at surprisingly accessible prices, with tickets starting at just $25. Prices range from $32 to $130, while box seating begins at $200. Tickets went on sale on Wednesday, December 11, and are available through the Hollywood Bowl’s official website.
This year’s event follows the success of last summer’s sold-out Roots Picnic: Hip-Hop Is the Love of My Life, which marked the festival’s West Coast debut. That event featured hip-hop icons like Queen Latifah and Common, leaving fans eager for more.
Questlove emphasized the nostalgia behind the Class of ’95 theme, calling it a tribute to an era of unparalleled creativity. “Those were the days when there were still things like mainstream terrestrial radio, bloated video budgets, and creativity at both the regional and global levels. The world was our oyster,” he said.
With such a dynamic lineup and its roots firmly planted in hip-hop’s golden era, this year’s Roots Picnic promises to be another can’t-miss event.
