Despite what their fans may think, Tia Mowry said that she and her twin sister Tamera Mowry are still very close.

During an interview with Essence  Tia took time to clarify her previous statements that led many to believe that Tia and Tamera had drifted apart.

“There’s this special bond that we will always have that will never leave us,” Tia explained. “What I meant by that was, she’s not as accessible to me as she used to be. That’s a part of life. Change is constant. But change does not mean that something is wrong.

In the promo for her reality series My Next Act, Tia got emotional when saying she lost her connection with Tamera.

“It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close, Tia said in the clip. “I could, you know, pick up the phone and call her. But that’s just not where we are right now.”

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Tamera said she wasn’t asked to be a part of My Next Act. She added that she found out about the show when she saw the promotional video.

Shortly thereafter, Tia said that she was speaking about the physical distance between them and not their bond.

“You could hear it from me, and this is basically what I was insinuating: I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them. We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives,” she said. “That is what that was all about.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Tia opened up about choosing to show the aftermath of her divorce from Cory Hardrict on the show.

“Divorce is very common. It’s something that a lot of people experience but don’t talk about because there’s an embarrassment behind it. There are so many other negative feelings around it,” she said. “I’m not saying that divorce is great because it sucks. But it’s a part of our life. It’s not something that we all can run away from.”

The couple were married in April 2008 and divorced in April 2023. They share two children: a son named Cree and a daughter named Cairo.
