Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, has announced the release of her upcoming memoir, Matriarch. Set for an April 2025 launch, the book promises a candid look into her life, from her Creole roots in Louisiana to becoming a guiding force behind the Knowles family legacy. In an Instagram post on October 29, Knowles shared her excitement: “I’m thrilled to announce that my memoir, MATRIARCH, will be publishing this April…I’m excited to share its cover with you now.”
The memoir, published by Random House, will follow Knowles’ journey as the youngest of seven siblings in Galveston, Texas. Growing up surrounded by “the sounds of Motown” and dreaming of life beyond the Texas coast, Knowles was inspired by her mother’s storytelling skills. “I have always been a storyteller, and it’s something I learned from my mother,” she shared. Knowles hopes to honor those lessons and memories by passing them on to the next generation.
Tina Knowles Celebrating Black Identity and Motherhood
At 70, Knowles says she’s still learning life’s valuable lessons and feels ready to share that wisdom with others. “Even at 70, I am still learning valuable lessons—revelations that I wish that I would have had at 40 or even 20,” she wrote. She describes the book as a tribute to the power of motherhood, resilience, and Black pride, underscoring her desire for her daughters to “know where they came from to know where they were going.”
Executive editor Kierna Mayo, who worked closely with Knowles on the book, described it as “an exploration of intangible sensibility.” Mayo believes Matriarch will redefine readers’ understanding of what it means to be a “matriarch” in today’s world, calling Knowles “a cultural icon, businesswoman, and philanthropist.”
The memoir will also detail her experiences as a mother figure to Destiny’s Child members and co-founder of the House of Deréon fashion line. For Beyoncé, her mother’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Sharing the memoir’s cover on her own Instagram, Beyoncé expressed, “Mama, I couldn’t be prouder… You put your heart into this book… To know you is to love you.”
Matriarch is now available for preorder and will be in stores April 22, 2025.
