In a recent interview on The Big Tigger Morning Show, comedian Tommy Davidson opened up about his complex relationship with Jamie Foxx. The two actors, known for their roles on the iconic sketch series In Living Color, have a history that Davidson described as both professional and contentious.

“It Was a Whole ’Nother Dude,” Says Tommy Davidson

Davidson recalled the early days of working with Foxx on In Living Color, where they “got along” as colleagues. Foxx joined the show in its second season in 1991, while Davidson had been part of the original cast since 1990. Both remained until the show ended in 1994.

However, the dynamic shifted during the filming of the 1997 comedy Booty Call. Davidson explained, “It was a whole ’nother dude […] like junior high. How the dudes used to be in junior high.” He went on to describe challenges on set, alleging that Foxx refused to deliver lines when off-camera. “I had to memorize his part and my part,” Davidson revealed.

Despite these challenges, Davidson acknowledged Foxx’s immense talent. “He’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever seen,” he said.

No Communication but Continued Concern

Davidson admitted that he and Foxx have not crossed paths since their time working together. When Foxx experienced a serious health scare earlier this year, Davidson said he made an effort to check on him but received “no response.” He added, “That was happening before that,” hinting at a longer period of estrangement.

Still, Davidson expressed relief at Foxx’s recovery. “His absence from the spotlight was concerning because he’s everywhere. I’m glad he’s okay now,” he shared.

In addition to reflecting on his relationship with Foxx, Davidson discussed upcoming projects, including a guest appearance on Damon Wayans’ new show Poppa’s House. Describing it as one of his best experiences in years, Davidson said, “That was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had in about 15 years.”

Davidson’s candid comments highlight the highs and lows of his connection with Foxx while underscoring his respect for his former co-star’s work and resilience.
