U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team player Trinity Rodman has labeled her father Dennis Rodman’s public apology as a “joke.” The NBA Hall of Famer apologized on Instagram after Trinity’s recent interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she opened up about their strained relationship.

“He’s a person. He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else,” Trinity, 22, said during the interview. Her comments shed light on years of absence and unresolved pain stemming from her childhood. Following the interview’s release, Dennis Rodman, 63, shared a lengthy apology on Instagram. “Sorry I wasn’t the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried and I still Try and Never will Stop,” he wrote. “I will keep Trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls.”

Trinity’s response was blunt. On Instagram Stories, she posted, “A joke. The response alone. And the attention. Wiping my hands with it and I’m done. Thank you.”

Painful Memories and Setting Boundaries

In her podcast interview, Trinity shared candidly about her father’s struggles with substance abuse and the impact of his absence. “He’s an alcoholic,” she stated. “That’s something that I don’t want to say, but I’m just like, f**k it. It’s just the truth.” She also recalled financial hardships after her parents’ divorce in 2004, which was finalized in 2012. “Before the divorce, my dad was helping money-wise. When it happened, it was just like, ‘F**k you guys.’”

Trinity’s memories of their visits painted a difficult picture. “My dad likes to be in control,” she said. “He’d take us shopping, get us phones. But all we wanted was to go get In-N-Out with our friends.”

Despite her frustrations, Trinity revealed she still answers his calls occasionally, though not for reconciliation. “I want to know that I did that. Or if he needed to hear my voice before anything happens,” she explained.

The Washington Spirit forward’s decision to speak out has sparked discussions about familial boundaries and healing. While Trinity remains focused on her career, it’s clear she is determined to prioritize her own peace of mind.
