The Trump Administration is considering getting rid of NYC congestion pricing.
Reports state that they are looking over the plan to see if they can “pull the plug on a key federal authorization.” Trump has been very vocal about congestion pricing which charges $9 to drivers who enter Manhattan below 60th Street.
A spokesperson for the MTA refused to make any comments about Trump’s consideration. “We’ve been sued in every federal court and state court east of the Mississippi, and we’re batting a thousand,” MTA chairman Janno Lieber said earlier this month. “We’ve won every time.”
Sources say that Trump’s administration is set to be targeting the “Value Pricing Pilot Program” (VPPP) agreement, that allows “congestion pricing tolls to be used for purposes other than road maintenance.”
The agreement was signed in 2024 by state, local, and federal departments of transportations. Right now, it’s not clear how Trump and his administration will kill congestion pricing in NYC.
