On Sunday, August 11, Tyrese sung the National Anthem at the Los Angeles Rams v Dallas Cowboys football game.
The singer channelled his inner Marvin Gaye for his performance donning a wig and fake beard to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” .
Rocking the new look, the star delivered a take on the song much slower in tempo and one that saw him briefly pause to encourage audience participation.
Viewers did not hesitate to react on social media. The singer-actor instantly caught heat on line for his attempt at a Marvin Gay rendition.

Later that evening, Tyrese responded to the online roasting admitting that he may have had a few bad notes.

Tyrese also insisted, “I really really tried,” indicating he was inspired by Marvin Gay’s soulful remix of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles.
“Teddy-Marvin-Donnie-Wonder-Gibson is my name,” he joked. “Smile…. it’s a viiiiiiibbbbeeeee!!!!!!!”
However, according to Tyrese, his performance caused an explosion in pre-orders for his upcoming album, Beautiful Pain.
