Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Victoria Monét and fitness trainer John Gaines have officially announced their split after months of speculation. The couple, who share a 3½-year-old daughter named Hazel, confirmed their breakup in a joint statement posted on social media on September 23.

Monét and Gaines revealed that they parted ways ten months ago but had been avoiding a public statement. “With good intentions, we honestly have been avoiding a formal statement about something as natural and as personal as love,” the pair wrote. Despite their desire for privacy, they felt compelled to address the situation due to public curiosity and rumors.

Co-parenting and Mutual Respect

In their statement, Monét and Gaines emphasized that their decision to separate was amicable and rooted in personal growth rather than drama. “We both just have some fundamental growing to do that would be best done apart so we can remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter,” they explained. They also clarified that their breakup was not caused by infidelity or toxic behavior, stating, “No infidelity, toxic behavior, nor drama” played a part in their split.

The couple’s primary focus remains their daughter, Hazel. They assured fans that their co-parenting relationship would be a top priority, saying, “Hazel will remain our number one priority forever. No relationship status can remove or replace that fact.” They also expressed a desire for peace as they transition into their new family dynamic. “Please allow us the peace and space to maintain a safe and happy environment to co-parent Hazel to the best of our ability.”

A Healing Process for Victoria Monét and John Gaines

Though the breakup was difficult, Monét and Gaines acknowledged the importance of being transparent. “We decided to be open and address it in hopes to put a period on the question marks for the sake of our healing process,” they shared. The pair thanked their supporters, family, and friends for their love and concern, asking for prayers and understanding as they continue to raise their daughter.

Monét and Gaines concluded by requesting privacy during this time, asking the public to be “understanding and gentle” when seeing them together. Despite their split, the couple plans to “remain a family regardless of our public-facing title.”
