Revered actress and producer Viola Davis is on track to receive the coveted EGOT title.
On Tuesday (Nov. 15), Davis received her first ever Grammy nomination for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording. Davis has already received a multitude of awards for her masterclass performances across television, film and theater. The seasoned actress already has over 300 nominations and about 140 wins. She is currently the most nominated Black actress in Oscars history. Her recent work in “The Woman King” makes her a strong contender for another nomination.
Earlier this year, Davis released a memoir, Finding Me: A Memoir that acts as a love letter to herself. “In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever”, the author described.
Currently, there are only 17 EGOT recipients with Jennifer Hudson being the latest. She locked in her EGOT status for her work as a producer on Michael R. Jackson’s Best Musical winning A Strange Loop at the 2022 Tony Awards.
The current living recipients of the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) are: composer Richard Rodgers, actress Helen Hayes, actress Rita Moreno, actor John Gielgud, actress Audrey Hepburn, composer Marvin Hamlisch, orchestrator Jonathan Tunick, writer/director/composer Mel Brooks, director Mike Nichols, actress Whoopi Goldberg, producer Scott Rudin, composer Robert Lopez, singer and actor John Legend, composer Tim Rice, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, composer Alan Menken and actress/singer Jennifer Hudson.
