The Wayans brothers are set to reunite for a reboot of the beloved Scary Movie franchise, marking their return to the series for the first time in nearly two decades. The trio—Keenen Ivory, Marlon, and Shawn Wayans—will work with Rick Alvarez, who has co-written several Wayans films, to develop the new film, with a planned shoot in 2025. The reboot is expected to bring their original comedic style back to the franchise’s signature parody-horror format.

Wayans “Double Reunion” for Fans and Creators

The Wayans brothers, who originally wrote and starred in the Scary Movie films, expressed their excitement to dive back into the franchise they created over 20 years ago. “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” the brothers said in a joint statement. “We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. It’s a double reunion.” They also acknowledged their enthusiasm for working with the Miramax team, led by Jonathan Glickman, to bring this project to theaters.

Glickman, president of Miramax, praised the reunion, noting the unique comedic value the Wayans brothers bring to the project. “We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise,” Glickman stated. “The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen.”

A Beloved Franchise Returns with Original Flair

First launched in 2000, Scary Movie quickly gained a cult following for its satirical take on popular horror films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The film series grossed over $896 million worldwide, establishing itself as one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror comedies of its time. Now, fans are eager to see if the reboot can capture the same success and bring the franchise to a new generation.

Marlon Wayans hinted at the announcement earlier this month on Instagram, posting a teaser image with the caption, “We’re back!” He described the return as something fans had been “asking for,” adding, “We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

The Scary Movie reboot will be released by Paramount Pictures, with Miramax leading production. Fans can look forward to reliving the laughs in theaters in the near future.
