In a candid interview with Don Lemon on The Don Lemon Show, Wendy Williams firmly rejected claims about her incapacity. The former talk show host, now 60, discussed her three-year conservatorship, describing it as isolating and demeaning.
“My life is ridiculous,” Williams shared. “I feel like I’m in prison. I can’t go out, and all I can do is look out the window.” Williams, currently living in a wellness facility in New York City, emphasized, “I’m not incapacitated. Hell f***ing no.”
Wendy Williams Living in Isolation
Williams detailed her restrictive living conditions, stating she is cut off from her family and closely monitored by her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. Even her phone use is heavily controlled. “The phone I’m using now lets me call out, but no one can call me,” she explained.
When asked about Morrissey’s claims that she has dementia and is permanently incapacitated, Williams said she feared repercussions if she spoke too openly. “I don’t know how much I can talk without being punished,” she admitted.
Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, also weighed in, confirming the difficulties her aunt faces. “She has to be so careful with what she says because there’s this worry of retaliation,” Finnie told Lemon.
A Desire for Freedom and Work
Despite these challenges, Williams expressed her longing to return to work and move closer to her family in Miami. “I don’t want to work five days a week,” she said. “I want to pick and choose what kind of work I do because that’s who I am now.”
Lemon, who formed a close friendship with Williams during the pandemic, shared his perspective on her condition. “Does she sound like the same Wendy from years ago? No. But does she sound lucid? Yes,” he said.
Williams’ fans have rallied online, with calls to “Free Wendy” gaining momentum. As Lemon remarked, “She deserves to live her life with some degree of autonomy and happiness around her family.”
