Billy Porter has officially been banned from attending the Met Gala next year.
According to reports, Anna Wintour revoked Porter’s invite after he called her a b***h. The actor vented about Vogue magazine’s 2020 controversial December cover. He opened up about singer Harry Styles appearing on the cover and the attire he was wearing, which sparked a conversation about gender-fluid fashion.
Porter claimed he was the first male to change the world after wearing his infamous tuxedo dress at the 2019 Oscars. He also said that he was passed up for the cover opportunity for the former One Direction member.
The “Pose” star later apologized to Wintour for his harsh remarks during a recent interview he did earlier this month where he reflected on the conversation with her. “That b***h said to me at the end, ‘How can we do better?’ And I was so taken off guard that I didn’t say what I should have said,” Porter said.
He continued with what he should’ve said, “Use your power as Vogue to uplift the voices of the leaders of this degendering of fashion movement.” A few months later, after talking to Wintour, Porter said that Styles became the face of gender-fluid fashion and claimed because Styles hadn’t publicly confirmed his sexuality he got the cover for being a white straight male.
In another interview, Porter said, “It doesn’t feel good to me. You’re using my community or your people are using my community to elevate you. You haven’t had to sacrifice anything.”
Because of his comments, a source close to Anna Wintour confirmed the actor being banned from the fashion event. “The repercussions of Porter’s big mouth have been swift and decisive, as his invitation to the all-important Met Gala was revoked and his once-favorable standing with top-tier designers has been shaken.
The source added, “While Billy is a sensation on the fashion scene, the designers have rallied behind Anna, a true titan of the industry.”
