Grammy-award winning singer, actress and author Fantasia Barrino is freeing herself from generational curses. The mom of three cited her family as the motivating force for her decision to return to school.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Fantasia Barrino shared:
“I’m a businesswoman now and I desire to continue to sharpen my sword and better my craft,” she commented. “I want to break generational curses. When it comes to my family, my girls, my children, I want to show them that no matter what she’s been through, you can always get back and go after it again, and that’s what I am doing.”
On Monday (April 17) the 38 year-old announced that she is officially enrolled at Central State University.
“PSA: I AM OFFICIALLY ENROLLED AS A STUDENT @centralstate87!!! I want to thank everyone who was apart of making this happen for me and working with my busy schedule. Special thanks to my Sorors 💙🐩💛 @nataliemichelleturner @dbrown189 for connecting me with the amazing staff at Central State. Who knows… I may just show up to Homecoming in October!!!,” she captioned.
The American Idol winner dropped out of high school as a teenager before eventually receiving her GED in 2010. As an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, Barrino hopes to motivate others to keep working toward their goals.
“I want to be the example, I want to use my platform, my social media, to show people — men, women, Black, white, young, old — that if you have a dream, it doesn’t have to have a timeline,” she explained. “It doesn’t have to look a certain way and, in fact, looks better when it has a bunch of bruises and scars because that means you fought for it.”
Barrino has three children – son Dallas Xavier, 11, daughter Zion Quari, 19 and daughter Keziah with husband Kendall Taylor. Barrino juggles being a mother, singer, actress, author, and business owner – college student is the latest addition to her plate. The NAACP-winner is returning to school to study business.
Barrino is currently on tour with her next stop in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Truth Is singer also makes an appearance in an episode of Celebrity Prank Wars, hosted by Nick Cannon and Kevin Hart.
