2023 might just be the year of SZA. The singer just released the music video for her single Kill Bill off of her new album S.O.S. Check it out below.
The singer-songwriter released the sophomore album just in December. It has spent a month at number one on the Billboard 200. Kill Bill became the number one trending song in the UK in early January and rose to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart just this week. Additionally, it has gained over 195 million streams to date on Spotify.
SZA On Her Tarantino Influence
Directed by Christian Breslauer, the music video pays tribute to Quentin Tarantino’s film which also has the same name. In an interview with EW, SZA previously detailed that the music video would be inspired partially by the film. “I love Vivica A. Fox’s character. I love Lucy Liu’s character. I even love Bill because he’s super complex,” she said. “I feel like he doesn’t understand why he did what he did. He’s void of emotion, but he loved The Bride so much that he couldn’t stand her to be with anyone else. That was really complex and cool to me. It’s a love story.”
Vivica A. Fox gave fans a surprise cameo as well in the video. Fox played the character Vernita Green also known as Copperhead in the original film. Fox lets SZA hitch a ride with her after almost being killed by her lover. During the car ride, the singer plots her revenge.
In true SZA fashion, the singer teases us with yet another video at the end of the Kill Bill visual. This time we see the singer naked and tied up in ropes as she sings along to the tune of Seek and Destroy, another single from the album.
Kill Bill is the third track from the album to get a music video, following Shirt and Nobody Gets Me. Starting on February 21, SZA will hit the road for a North American tour of the album.
