Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert are going their separate ways after seven years of marriage.
On Sunday (Sept 17), Taylor, 32, announced on her Instagram that the couple have been separated for years and assured that infidelity is not the cause.
“Not too much on my bestie! In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children’.”
She continued by adding that family and privacy, things that are meaningful to them, are why they’ve kept their marriage details on the low. “Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT. We just keep y’all asses out the group chat lol, which is the reason we’ve been able to successfully & peacefully separate without all of the outside noise.”
Shupert, 33, has yet to address the separation news.
Taylor and Shumpert first crossed paths at a 2011 party, becoming close friends. They started dating in 2014, one year before getting engaged. Taylor and Shumpert welcomed their first daughter, Iman “Junie” Tayla Jr., in 2015 and tied the knot the following year. Their second child, daughter, Rue Rose, arrived in 2020.
Throughout their relationship, their individual careers continued to rise. When Shumpert joined the cast of Dancing With the Stars season 30, Taylor was his No. 1 cheerleader.
Open Marriage speculations
There have been rumors that the split was caused due to the couple having an alleged open marriage.
The topic first arose in 2018, after Taylor released her album, “K.T.S.E.,” on which she has a song called “3Way” about having a threesome.
Despite her invitation to share the details of her bedroom, some fans thought it was tasteless.
One fan tweeted, “A few weeks ago @TEYANATAYLOR and @imanshumpert were relationship goals. Now I just feel like her interview was tasteless and shows a lack of self respect. Let this be a lesson. What you and your husband do should be left in the room.”
She clapped back at the fan, writing, “Let what be a lesson petunia!? I’m not losing any sleep at night over UR opinion. Just because I, ME I repeat ME enjoy b*ssing b***hes down from time to time w/ MY HUSBAND, doesn’t mean I don’t respect ‘self.’ So, u should go and enjoy your wack *ss sex life & stay out of mine.”
The couple landed their own television show in 2021, “We Got Love: Teyana & Iman.” The show follows the choreographer, her family, and entourage. However, a season 2 has not yet been announced.
